In England, businesses offering close contact services need to follow the government’s Guidance for keeping workers and clients safe in close contact services.

On 22 February 2021, the Prime Minister announced the government’s roadmap for easing COVID-19 restrictions in England. 

It involves four distinct steps, which will rely on four ‘tests’ being met between each step, with close contact (personal) services due to reopen as part of  

Step 2. If all goes to plan, England will be able to reopen for business on 12 April. 

In the meantime, unless we are advised differently or England has reached Step 2 in the roadmap, the current guidance remains the same: that close contact services should only be provided to support clients who have a genuine health condition/medical need that requires urgent treatment and cannot be deferred.

Throughout the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, our advice to clients has been to adhere to best practice and follow government regulations and guidelines, which continue to evolve on a daily basis.

The Prime Minister has announced that England will be entering a national lockdown from midnight on 4 January, as a result of the new strain of coronavirus, Level 4 restrictions.

  If we learn that there are any circumstances under which close contact services can continue, we will of course update our members.

When your country’s government has indicated that it is safe for therapists to return to practice, we want to reassure you, that as a member of the Federation of Holistic Therapists (FHT) we are  advised to continue and carry out a full consultation assessment combining a  COVID-19 form intake form and adhere to COVID-19 guidelines, produced by the government and the FHT (all forms MUST be completed on booking and received by your therapist, prior to your appointment).

 ▶️ Our treatments are held within a HomeSpa premise. 

 ▶️ Your therapist will always follow STRICT guidelines and on the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).

 ▶️ Disinfect non-porous materials e.g. massage couch and bolsters.

 ▶️ Wash porous materials e.g. pillowcases, sheets, drapes and towels.

 ▶️ Replace couch roll and other disposable materials.

 ▶️ Change their tunic/top/apron with every new treatment.

 ▶️ Wear durable, disposable gloves during ALL treatments and when cleaning equipment.

 ▶️ Maintain social distancing before and after the treatment.

Prior to your treatment...You will be asked to:

 ▶️ Complete a short COVID-19 consultation form on prior to EVERY visit (many of our clients are required to visit  3 times a week). 

Contact your therapist and re-schedule, if you have any symptoms of COVID-19, or if any person in your household is self-isolating. 

 ▶️ The treatment space is ventilated, using medically graded equipment utilising HEPA filtration. 

At your treatment: 

 ▶️ If there are any other members of household or colleagues they will always be situated in another area of the building. 

 ▶️ Contactless hand sanitiser is ALWAYS provided and used upon arrival and departure. 

 ▶️ All clients must adhere and follow guidelines from your therapist, on the use of PPE (this will always include feet protection too) 

 ▶️ Payments will be via card or other cashless methods, where possible, please refer to the Payment Options link below for more details. 

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact your therapist directly - all details are included within the simple to use  electronic forms during the booking process.

 ▶️ Bring a bottle of water for your refreshment. 

 ▶️ Arrive at the agreed time and ensure social distancing before and after the treatment. 

If you are planning to visit a salon/clinic/therapy practice, please do ensure they are also adhering and continuing to follow strict government guidelines, with every visit to ensure your health and safety is not being compromised.   

As you are no doubt aware, yesterday evening parliament voted in favour of England returning to a 3-tier system of local restrictions from Wednesday 2nd  December. 

Please find below the answers to some frequently asked questions we  have received from members, which are all based on the government's guidance on local restrictions, as well as confirmation we have sought direct from the Department of   Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy.

Q. Can I work from Wednesday 2nd December, regardless of what tier I live in?

Yes, all close contact services can resume, providing you "follow COVID-19 secure guidelines to protect customers, visitors and workers".

 In particular, therapists need to follow the government's guidance for close contact services (which applies to complementary, holistic beauty and sports therapists). 

Q. Can I provide treatments from my therapy room at home?

Yes, providing you are following relevant government and FHT guidelines, as outlined above.

Q. Can I provide treatments in my client's home?

Yes, providing  you are following relevant government and FHT guidelines, because you are visiting your client's home for work purposes.

Q. Can I provide treatments in other contexts/settings?

Yes, providing   you are following relevant government and FHT guidelines and the premises are not required to close by law. However, please note that some settings - such as individual nursing homes, hospices or hospitals - may impose their own restrictions on what services they are happy to permit at this time (this must be checked with your employer/ the manager).  

Q. Can I travel to a different tier to provide treatments?

Yes, providing   you are following relevant government and FHT guidelines, because travel between tiers is permitted for work purposes.

Q. Can I continue to teach/learn close contact services?

Yes, education in close contact services can continue across all tiers, 

providing COVID-19 secure guidelines are followed.

Q. As a student, can I continue to provide treatments for my case studies, in my own home and my client's home?

Yes, students can practice skills on clients, providing COVID-19 secure guidelines are followed.

Until 2nd December, national restrictions remain in place for England 

(please see directly below for more information). 

However, in a statement to parliament on 23rd November, the Prime Minster announced that from 2nd December, England will be returning to a 3-Tier system of regional restrictions. While these have been strengthened, the Prime Minister has stressed the different tiers will follow a "uniform set of rules" and there won't be "negotiations on additional measures with each region." 

While it is unlikely that the government will announce which Tiers will apply to each region of the UK, until at least Thursday 27 November, the government website currently indicates that businesses offering close contact services will be able to remain open in all three Tiers - including Tier 3 - as long as COVID-secure guidelines are followed (in particular, the government's guidance for close contact services). However, therapists will need to take into account any restrictions within their region/Tier that may prevent them from carrying out treatments/services in certain contexts.

on Wednesday 2nd September.  

The Government has instructed today is the day, we can all re-open for close contact business. I have always stated I would only be re-opening once ALL business can fully re-open and I would refrain a further two weeks...despite this being a difficult decision. 

Like many others, COVID-19 has been the most incredibly challenging and strangest of times. I can honestly say the last 6 months has been some of the toughest moments I’ve faced for a very long time. As many of you know, my cute little business - a piece of tranquility and space to feel safe and relaxed, is operated from my HomeSpa.

 I felt it was important and necessary to wait a further two weeks, for my clients, my family and my own health and safety. I must reiterate, I cannot thank you again for ALL your kind messages of support and unexpected gifts delivered - all socially distanced and left on my doorstep. 

Your kindness and patience has been overwhelming. There are simply not enough words to express my sincere thanks and love to you all.                                  

  ▶️Treatments for pain & anti-ageing will be Medically Graded & FDA cleared devices.    
▶️There will be NO skin to skin contact.                                  

 ▶️All PPE and disposables are NHS approved.                      
▶️For the time being there are no increases of cost to our treatments or extra costs to our clients for PPE atm. We remain using some of the best organic products for your health and well being
▶️ I will be in touch over the coming days and weeks for all existing clients mid treatment prior to lockdown in March and anyone that has purchased gift vouchers for Mother’s Day and Birthdays.                                           
▶️New consultation forms are all electronic. 

Clients with Celluma Pro LED courses or attending more than one treatment in the same week will be required to complete a quick 2 min health check on the day of your appointment.

Healing Hands of Crosby due to re-open on 13th August has taken the difficult decision to delay our bookings a little while longer to announce their opening hours since the recent Government announcement, on 31st July. We cannot wait to offer our award winning Celluma Pro LED Light Therapy and G5 Massage treatments for ALL pain conditions/injuries/wound care and anti-ageing treatments. They are all tailored to ensure there is NO skin to skin contact. 

STRICT guidelines are in place within our HomeSpa including hygiene stations, Clinell clean indicator notes within the spa, medically graded PPE for our therapist and clients. We will continue to provide a professional, safe and ethical environment for our clients, so they may enjoy a relaxing, safe healing space for all treatments. We are taking the extra measures very seriously.  A phone consultation will be required before we forward our intake forms (issued electronically and must be completed prior to any booking confirmations). Our Client's safety is of absolute importance. All safety, work practices and procedures developed are set out clearly within each intake form. There is a 1 to 2 metre distance rule (organic facials is an exception, your Therapist will be protected with a face guard and gloves). A track and trace system is in place with a contactless payment option.
