Aftercare advice

The following advice should be taken following a massage:

❖  Avoid alcohol for or any stimulants (including tea, coffee, drugs) after treatment, as they will dehydrate you.

❖  Drink plenty of water to assist in the elimination of toxins, that have released from the tissues

❖  Eat a light diet to assist the detoxification and healing process (possibly a healthy one vegetarian/vegan e.g. fruit & vegetables) Eating large meals will cause blood to be diverted to the gut to aid the digestion of food. The demands of digestion will divert energy away from the healing processes, as massage requires to carry on healing.

❖  Get plenty of rest. You may feel tired after treatment .

❖  Gentle exercise – postural exercises can help with muscle tension as well as exercises that will assist with mobility. Gentle Yoga only, is an option.

❖  Do not smoke, the treatment is a detoxifying one and smoking will introduce toxins into the body.

❖  Avoid Sunbathing or sun beds, treatments, unless all of the oil is removed in case the skin burns.

❖  Do breathing exercises to assist with taking in oxygen to your fullest capacity

❖  If the massage is for relaxation or stimulation, a relaxing  bath or body brush would be beneficial.

Contra-actions (very infrequent, but possible actions after a treatment)

❖  Headache, Dizziness or Nausea—caused by the increased circulation of waste products transported in the lymphatic system

❖  Muscles may feel stiff, tired and achy—can be tender due to areas of tension being broken down

❖  Skin reaction—such as an allergy due to the medium (oil, cream, powder)

❖  Bruising—caused by incorrect application of the technique e.g excessive pressure during tapotement application

❖  Excessive Erythema—Reddening of the skin due to a  build-up of toxins in the muscles.

❖  Increased thirst, drink plenty of water to ensure you’re sufficiently hydrated

❖  These reactions are uncommon, perfectly normal and show that  toxins are being expelled from the body, so that it may re-balance and cleanse itself.
