Massage therapy has more recently been used for the treatment of mental and emotional problems, including stress, anxiety, and depression.
Also considered a relaxation technique, massage therapy may be able to help reduce tension and elicit feelings of calm and deep relaxation. There are a variety of modalities in order to completely relax your mind and body.
The anxiety-reducing and mood enhancing benefits of massage are probably related to changes in EEG activity (electroencephalogram or brain waves) decreased levels of cortisol and increased activity of the parasympathetic nervous system, which acts automatically to calm the body and brain during stress.
Neck stiffness or Text Neck caused by stress, excessive computer use, bad posture, etc. reduces blood flow to cause fatigue, headaches, dizziness, panic attacks, insomnia, and poor functioning of the immune system.
Text Neck is an overuse syndrome or a repetitive stress injury to the neck caused by holding your head in a forward and downward position for extended periods of time. When holding your head in this position, excessive amounts of tension are created in the deep muscles of your neck and across the shoulders causing both acute and chronic neck pain. Chronic headaches have also been linked to this condition.
The increased prevalence of these pains is due to the increasing popularity and hours people spend on handheld devices such as smartphones, e-readers and tablets.
Neck massage, helps to relieve that stiffness and rectify or prevent the above problems. In the erect position, the neck muscles are forced to contract for a long period of time and so they collect lactic acid which causes neckache. Neck massage alleviates that problem. It is advisable to have the correct neck and upper back massages once or twice a month, for those who use computers or stress.
